Home remedies for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

As mentioned earlier, our gut is extremely sensitive to inflammatory foods and factors like stress. The expert reckons to cut down inflammatory foods from your diet, and instead load up on cooling foods like melons, and astringent fruits like apples, berries and cherries. Here are the top remedies suggested by the expert to help curb your symptoms and make you feel better.

1. Count on soaked coriander or sabja seeds

The expert suggests to soak 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds overnight and drink the water first thing next morning on an empty stomach. You can even chew on the seeds, for they have a cooling effect on your intestines.

Alternatively, you could soak 1 tsp of sweet basil or sabja seeds overnight in a bowl or in a bottle of water. They swell up and have a gel-like outer layer. Sip this through the day or drink it in the mornings on an empty stomach. It has a cooling effect on your gut and reduces inflammation.

2. Add astringent foods to your diet

“Bananas and pomegranates are two fruits that help bind the stools together and help keep diarrhoea-like symptoms at bay. These are the only two fruits that are recommended to take after meals for the ones suffering from these symptoms. Otherwise, keeping an hour’s gap between your meals and fruits is suggested,” shares the expert.
