Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has expressed a sense of “relief” on completing her chemotherapy treatment for cancer. The mother-of-three was diagnosed with cancer earlier in 2024, after she underwent an abdominal surgery. Subsequently, she was advised to undergo preventive chemotherapy, which took a physical and emotional toll on the British royal and her family.

The health update on Kate Middleton was shared through a message posted on the official @KensingtonRoyal account on X. The message from Catherine reads: “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”

Cancer journey is scary: Kate Middleton

Over the past few months, Kate Middleton has witnessed a lot of emotional support from her family members, as well as fans. The ups and downs of the health battle has given her a fresh look at life, she concedes.

“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything. This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved,” adds the 42-year-old.

The cancer diagnosis had come as a “shock” to the family and everyone who follows the British royal family. She was first admitted to hospital in January 2024 for a planned abdominal surgery. It was later discovered by doctors that there were traces of cancer, following which she began preventive chemotherapy treatment. Kate is the second royal after King Charles III to have been struck by cancer, but the type of cancer she was diagnosed with, has been kept under wraps.

Kate Middleton ready to take on public engagements after cancer scare

Now that her chemotherapy sessions are over, she hopes there is no recurrence. “Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” says Kate Middleton.

She is also looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months, whenever she can.

What the Princess of Wales is certain about is to enter this new phase of recovery with a “renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life”. She expresses gratitude for the kindness, empathy and compassion” they have received through these trying times.

In a message to those who are continuing their own cancer journey, Kate Middleton says, “I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”

Kate Middleton’s message is accompanied by a heartwarming video, which features a montage of happy family moments featuring her husband and their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The family is seen playing on the beach and enjoying their personal time in the woods. Shot in Norfolk by filmmaker Will Warr, the video symbolises and corroborates Catherine’s statement about the support and sanity she has received from her loved ones and in doing things that give her most joy.
