Do you experience oily and dry skin at the same time? You might have a combination skin type. It may be tough to maintain because not all skincare products are suitable for this skin type. Some of them might dry out your skin, while others can make your face oilier. Therefore, finding the right skincare for combination skin is the most challenging thing. However, we have got you covered!

To know about the causes and some effective remedies for combination skin, Health Shots got in touch with Dr Nikhita Shere, skincare and Ayurveda expert at T.A.C – The Ayurveda Co.

Dr Shere says, “Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science, claims that each person’s Prakriti, or body constitution, is defined by the prevalence of specific doshas in their body. Acne in the oily zones or dry, flaky skin in the areas around the T-zone might result from an imbalance of these doshas. Combination skin is ordinary in people with a Vata-Kapha Prakriti. The Kapha dosha’s dominance causes excessive sebum production, whereas Vata’s impact keeps specific regions of your skin dry.”

Due to its dual nature, combination skin requires special attention. Finding a skincare routine that works for mixed skin might be challenging. Ayurveda advises using herbal skincare to balance your doshas and restore a holistic skin composition.

Here are some of the most effective and natural ways for hydrating, controlling excessive sebum production, and rejuvenating combination skin:

1. Green tea, honey and aloe vera mask

Green tea has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities, making it an excellent component for mixed skin. “It not only prevents acne but also keeps your skin nice and silky. Aloe vera gel will give your face a natural shine while also nourishing your skin. At the same time, honey aids in the removal of dirt and also acts as a humectant, keeping skin nourished but not oily,” says Dr Shere.

How to make it: Combine two teaspoons of green tea leaves, one tablespoon of Aloe vera gel, and one tablespoon of honey in a small mixing bowl. Then apply the paste to your entire face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Afterwards, wash your face with normal water.

2. Multani mitti pack

Multani mitti is a fantastic ingredient for those with combination skin because of its oil-absorbing qualities. It also eliminates acne and cleans your face’s pores. It has a cooling impact on your face and increases blood circulation, which helps to enhance your skin tone.

How to make it: To prepare a thick paste, combine two teaspoons of Multani mitti, one tablespoon of lemon juice, and one tablespoon of rose water in a bowl. Leave it on for 20 minutes after applying it all over your face, and then rinse it off. Multani mitti will harden as it dries, so it’s best not to talk while the mask is on your face.

3. Cucumber juice and honey

Cucumber juice mixed with honey is perfect for combination skin. Honey effectively tightens pores while also providing optimal moisture to the face. Cucumber, on the other hand, is an excellent cure for dryness or flakes on your skin due to its nourishing and anti-inflammatory characteristics.

4. Dried orange peel and curd

Dr Shere suggests using orange on combination skin as it act as a natural source of vitamin C for your skin. While the curd is used for this cure to help tighten your skin, eliminate dead cells, and moisturize it deeply.”

Grind the orange peel once it has been dried. To form a thick paste, add some curd. Apply and rinse with lukewarm water after 20 minutes.

5. Papaya banana mash and lemon juice

If your skin becomes excessively dry in certain areas, use a rich moisturizing ingredient like banana or papaya to restore suppleness. Lemon juice will not only brighten your tan, but it will also prevent oiliness.

In a bowl, mash a few slices of fruit (papaya/banana). Then crush half a lemon into it and combine the two ingredients. Apply the product to the skin and wait for it to dry. After a while, rinse it with normal water.

So ladies, including these natural remedies in your weekly skincare routine can help you achieve healthy, vibrant skin, and addressing problems associated to your combination skin.
