We all know about mucus – that sticky, gooey stuff that ends up clogging our nose or chest whenever we end up with a cold. As Covid-19 and Omicron cases witness a global upswing, people are facing issues in their respiratory issues. While the three Cs of cough, cold and congestion are among the likely signs of the dreaded ‘C’ of current times – Covid-19, people are also coughing up a lot of mucus.
You can find relief in some homemade, DIY recipes. But first let us learn a bit about mucus.
For the unversed, mucus is a fluid produced by the body as a protection mechanism just like tears or saliva. The mucus formation in the body indicates a lot about our immune system. A weak immune system produces mucus on regular basis. While it might sound strange, but that thick liquid that we spit when we are sick, is actually good for us! This is because the mucus is produced to fight diseases when our body feels it under the attack of virus or bacteria.
Sometimes, the body produces mucus even while encountering an allergic substance into the body that might act as a foreign substance. Excess mucus production indicates the body to remove the substance that might be triggering the production of unhealthy or allergic foods.
Clinical Nutritionist Upasana Sharma, Max Hospital, says, “When the body is affected with cold and cough, it takes time to heal the infection. A well-hydrated body heals faster and better.”
Mucus formation can be prevented and cured with some natural ingredients from the kitchen. Sharma suggests some natural recipes which can be easily prepared at home using the ingredients of high medicinal value and healing power.
These recipes are made using ingredients that are natural expectorants with anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties.
