Getting steamy in the bedroom is something most of us look forward to! Of course, being experimental is a great idea, but only when it is being done in a safe manner. This is especially when it comes to acts that involve orally pleasuring the anus. Yes, you got it right. It’s time to touch upon the subject of eating ass aka rimming that involves sucking or licking the anus, and the surrounding areas.

What is eating ass?

Eating ass, also known as rim job, is an oral and anal sex act. In this act, a person uses his tongue and lips to stimulate the anus of his or her partner. This is also known as anal oral sex.

Is eating ass safe?

Yes, it can be a safe sexual act if is done in the right manner. Dr Tanaya Narendra (popularly known as dr_cuterus), who often educates her audience on sex and related information, has shared some relevant information on her Instagram page. There is cautionary advice that goes like, “While this is a sexual practice many people enjoy, or like to try, they do it in an unsafe manner. But how can you lick someone’s butt safely? Simple, we have our lovely friend — the dental dam.”

Just like everything else, it is important to exercise care, before you indulge in it.

How you safely indulge in analingus or rimming

The point to remember here is that the skin of your bum should not touch your lips or tongue at all. “Just cover the bumhole with a dental dam, so the skin of the bum doesn’t come in direct contact with your tongue and lips,” adds Dr Narendra.

Can you get sick from eating ass?

Yes, you can.  Dr Narendra explains that it is important to understand the risks that come with anal-oral sex. The risks include:

  • Gut-related infections like E.coli and Hepatitis A.
  • Infection from the many parasites, viruses and bacteria that live in the intestines and bum.
  • The bacteria that’s present in the anus can also cause vaginal infections. Plus, you’d definitely not want to spread bacteria to the vagina via your tongue, fingers, sex toy or penis.
  • Many STIs like herpes, syphilis and HPV can spread through analingus (oral butt sex).

Can you get HIV from oral butt sex?

No. “Anal-oral sex is not considered a high-risk activity for getting HIV. Still, it’s best to use dental dams,” she explains.
