Most people toss the banana peel in the garbage without a second thought. But did you know that banana peels contain nutrients and phytonutrients that are extremely beneficial to the skin and can heal many skin conditions? Yes, you heard it right! Let’s learn about how banana peel is a good ingredient for skin.

The goodness of banana peel

Just like the fruit, banana peel is also loaded with many properties which are beneficial for skin health. A study published in PubMed Central noted that banana peel is a rich source of antioxidants properties, which can provide several benefits to the skin such as protection from sun damage and free radicals. That’s not all, it also brightens your skin, calms irritation, and even smooth fine lines. It is also a rich source of fatty acids which can treat issues such as eczema and psoriasis. In addition, it is rich in potassium and moisture which help hydrating dry skin and making it soft and supple. It is also loaded with many nutrients such as vitamin A, zinc, and manganese which are anti-inflammatory.

Now there might be a lot of products out there that promise skin benefits, but due to their chemical nature, the effects are short term. So to keep things natural, banana peel can be your best at-home solution.

Here are 4 ways on how to use banana peel for glowing and healthy skin:
1. Rubbing banana peel

This is the simplest way to use banana peel for skin. This way it can help reduce wrinkles, puffiness on the skin, dryness, and can prevent future breakouts.

Method to use it:

Step 1: First wash your face properly with a cleanser and pat dry with a towel.

Step 2: Take a banana peel and start massaging it on your face, with the inside of the peel.

Step 3: Continue the process for 10 minutes and if the peel turns brown, replace it with a fresh peel.

Step 4: Now, after 10 minutes of massaging, wait for another 10 minutes.

Step 5: Post that you can wash your face with cold water.

Using scrub at least once a week is really important to maintain skin health, because it helps to exfoliate the skin while preventing it from any form of dryness. Banana peel with turmeric forms a super-effective DIY scrub. On one hand, banana peels have tons of micronutrients like protein, fiber, magnesium, and potassium, which can keep your skin nourished and supple. While on the other hand, turmeric helps in reducing tan, fighting off acne, lightening dark circles, and clears off dead skin.

Method to use it:

Step 1: Cut banana peel into very small pieces and add them into a bowl.

Step 2: Now add a tablespoon of turmeric powder with sugar and add a teaspoon of honey to form a paste. Mix well.

Step 3: Apply the paste on your face and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.

Step 4: Remember to wash it off with lukewarm water.

4. Under-eye patches

Banana peel can act as a tool that will provide much-needed coolness and freshness to your under-eye area. In fact, the antioxidant and vitamin C content of banana peel can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and can brighten the skin.
